Why You Need a Marketing Guru
“Deciding what not to do is as important as deciding what to do.”
I get it, you’re a busy entrepreneur and business owner, and you have an infinite list of things to do and places to be. You’re trying to keep it all together, but your marketing often falls by the wayside and it’s one of many things that land on your catch-up list at the end of each week. I’m here to say, “Stop the cycle!” Marketing leads (quite simply) to sales. Sales lead to success. Do not let your best and biggest tool hinder your growth due to poor time management. A marketing guru can help.
#TriggerWarning
The true reasoning behind this blog post is that I speak with many entrepreneurs and business owners who hand off their less favorable to-do items to their assistants. Many times, this includes social media, graphic design, email campaigns, and content creation (along with errands, appointment setting and so much more). I am going to be frank here, so please do not take this personally. Your assistant cannot do it all. Marketing is a real, skilled job, and you will never see truly remarkable results if you are not implementing proven strategies designed for your industry and business consistently. While I may be biased, I can assure you that by spending short spurts of time on your marketing, with no actionable plan, you will see short-term results that are not worth the investment of your time and money. I urge you to just try, for three to six months, to work with a real, skilled marketing guru to develop a strategy and implement it consistently. Your marketing guru will do all of the hard work, and you can sit back, relax, and watch your ROI grow steadily.
If you feel this blog is about you, here are just a few reasons to hire a marketing guru, like now.
Reason #1: Generate more sales & leads
Simply put, the goal of any marketing strategy is to make more money. The proof is in the pudding. According to a recent study, 75% of companies that marketed their products on social media reported an increase in sales within 12 months. Additionally, 74% of consumers use social media to make purchase decisions. If that’s not reason enough to launch a well-rounded marketing campaign, I don’t know what is.
Reason #2: Measurable results to monitor your ROI
Few things in life have a quantifiable measurement. Marketing is one of them. Any marketing guru will use Key Performance Indicators or KPIs to track your growth and assess your strategy. Analytics may include your Facebook Pixel, Google Analytics, conversion tracking codes and so many more. Your marketing guru will check your analytics consistently throughout your partnership and share reports that show correlations between sales and marketing. This will help you, as a business owner, make difficult decisions and really put a value on your marketing.
Reason #3: Skip the guesswork
Skip the guesswork and partner with a marketing guru who is up on current trends, including timelines and best practices. These skills take years to develop and require an expert to be immersed in the world of marketing, reading daily news and articles, continuing education, and putting their knowledge to action. It is not enough to schedule a social media post and walk away, a real social media strategy requires knowledge of what to post, when to post, and what to include - from hashtag research to amplification strategies.
Reason #4: Relevant content
If you want to engage and grow a relevant audience, stock images and “fluff” content are not going to cut it. A marketing guru will first spend time researching your target audience, then they’ll create a content plan that leads to engagement. The content will likely include engaging questions, ask the audience to tag a friend, will include blog posts that steer the audience to purchase, and so much more. Again, it is not enough to simply post “fluff” and move on. A skilled marketing guru will re-purpose content for various platforms and get more bang for your buck.
Reason #5: Target an intentional audience
I see this often: accounts with big followings and hundreds of “likes” but when you scroll through them… they are all accounts from India or China. Let me ask you this, is an audience like this likely to purchase your products or services? Probably not. The goal of the marketing guru is to target an audience that is likely to utilize your service or products. Many strategies for this include finding other influencers or providers like you and engaging with their audience. As you can guess, this takes time, and while you may not yield a massive audience, you will attract a high-quality and intentional audience that is more likely to convert and conversions = money.
Reason #6: Increase website traffic
There are many reasons to want to drive traffic to your website. Perhaps you have ads on your site, or you are selling products on your site. A marketing guru will implement strategies to help you direct an audience to your website, along with many other business goals. The best thing about website traffic is that you will be able to actually see who is coming from where. These types of trackable analytics will help you make informed business decisions, and may even help you improve your overall website design and content.
Reason #7: Get with the times
For real, does it need to be any more obvious? Your customers are smart and highly influenced. If they find your products or services, they are likely to research on social media and online. If you do not have a presence, including social media or a website, you are likely to miss out on valuable clients. Get with the times, and work with a marketing guru.
Reason #8: Keep tabs on your competition
One of my favorite strategies requires a deep dive into your competition. I like to consider this working smarter, not harder. I begin by evaluating the competition, seeking out their “wins” and “misses.” I then create a strategy based on immediate opportunities. For example, if you are a skincare company and your competition is creating content around teen acne, healthy lifestyles, and cleanliness, but they’re missing out on topics like prenatal skincare, postpartum skincare, and adult acne, we would prioritize focusing on everything they’re missing. We would create a ton of relevant resources around prenatal skincare, postpartum skincare, and adult acne, and “steal” that opportunity. This is an excellent proven strategy and works wonders for SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
Reason #9: Access to all of the best tools
Now, to be clear, a lot of the strategies I have mentioned require pricey software that is not, by any means, intuitive. A skilled marketing guru will not only have access to these tools, but they’ll also know how to use them, saving you time and money.
Reason #10: Advertise without being obnoxious
The most popular feedback I receive from clients is to not be overly sales-y or obnoxious. A marketing guru will help to define your business’ voice and tone, along with messaging. This digital persona must be consistent across all channels and will help you to convert customers, and also create a brand identity.
Reason #11: Check it off your list!!!
This is by no means the last reason to hire a marketing guru, but Google recommends keeping blog posts to 800 words for maximum effect, so I’ll wrap this up soon. The main reason to hire a marketing guru is to check it off your list. Vet your marketing expert before hiring them, make sure they know their stuff, and then let them run with it. This way, you can focus on real, pressing business decisions, while knowing a big portion of your to-do list is taken care of by an expert! That’s a win-win for me.
